MEMO WRITER
by
Jim Weiler
(based on an idea by Dr. A. D.
Hensley)
If you write anything at all on the
job, you write your share of memos.
And if you don't write memos, you
probably should: memos are a perfect
way to request information, express
complaints, or communicate your ideas.
MEMO WRITER is a simple word
processor that automatically puts your
input into memo format. After you
create your memo, you can then save
it to disk, edit it if you need to,
and then make a printout of it.
USING MEMO WRITER
-----------------
When you run MEMO WRITER, you first
go to its main menu. The title of the
memo currently in memory and the
program's seven options are
displayed.
OPTIONS
-------
W - Write A Memo. This is the option
you use to compose your memo. When
you choose this option, you are
prompted to enter the date, the
person addressed, the name of the
writer, and the subject of the memo.
After you have entered all of this,
you can begin typing the body of the
memo.
Note that MEMO WRITER has no
"word-wrap" function. You must
manually add carriage returns to begin
new lines. (The cursor stops at the
end of each line.)
Also note that once you move the
cursor off of a line, you cannot
return to that line to edit it. You
must go to the "Edit Memo" option to
edit a line.
S - Save Memo. When you exit Option
'W' you return to the main menu. To
save the memo to disk, choose Option
'S' You will be prompted to enter a
filename for the memo.
Note that if the new filename is
identical to one already on the disk,
the file won't be saved and you must
select a different filename. You
can see a directory of the disk
currently in the drive by pressing the
"=" key and [RETURN].
L - Load Memo. To load a memo, merely
enter its filename. Pressing the "="
key and [RETURN] will display the
disk directory.
E - Edit Memo. If you want to make
changes to a memo, load it into memory
and choose this option. After you
have made changes, be sure to use
Option S to save the new version of
the memo. When you edit a memo, you
must edit every line. If you exit
before the end of the memo, all the
remaining text will be erased.
P - Print Memo. This option, of
course, makes a printout of your memo.
Note: Some memos require signatures,
others don't. The program will ask
you if it should append your name and
title to the memo. The program gets
this information from what you have
entered in the "Change Signature"
option.
C - Change Signature. This option
creates a special file on the disk
that contains your name and title.
This is the file that the Print Option
accesses if you choose to append your
name and title to the printout. If
you need to change this information,
you can use this option to do so at
any time.
X - Exit. This option returns you to
LOADSTAR.
